We took a ride to the Cape last Friday on our mini-motos. I bought a Honda Navi very impulsively last May. My husband excitedly followed my lead and got himself a Honda Grom. We’ve had a blast on them! Zipping around the beautiful winding country back roads and sparkling sea coast of the South Shore. This summer we’ve ventured out further over the bridge to Cape Cod.
It was a spur of the moment road trip. The weather was going to be beautiful, temps in the low 80s, and I felt caught up enough at work to start the weekend early. Summer flies by way too fast in New England and we try to bask in the warm sunshine and take advantage of the long days as often as we can.
Experiencing the outdoors through all your senses while coasting on 2 wheels is awesome. Discovering new restaurants that serve a delicious vegan meal is double awesome.
Dennis, MA
My husband Chris and I are very accommodating to each others eating preferences. He’s an omnivore and I’m vegan of course. On this trip our restaurant goal was a view of or near the ocean. We tried in Dennis but couldn’t find anything open before 4pm near the ocean. We had trouble connecting to the internet, so our online search got us nowhere.
Sesuit Harbor Cafe appeared super popular for seafood. There was a long line of people waiting to get to a window to place their order and no meal options for me so we moved on.
We drove over to Chapin Memorial Beach and caught the ‘At the Sea‘ film crew caravan leaving. So far, we seen Above the Line trucks (we heard they service film crews) while out riding in Halifax, Duxbury, and Marshfield too. This beach is so big and beautiful with sugar white sand and a massive shore that seems to go on forever when the tide is out. We definitely want to come back for a day at this beach! There’s a restaurant there, Chapin’s Bayside, but it didn’t open until 4pm. (I checked the menu later and didn’t see any vegan options.)
Dennis Port, MA
Stomach grumbling and getting a little h’angry, we decided to travel to the other coast only about 20 minutes away in Dennis Port. A straight, quick shot across the Cape’s bicep.
Moving inland we got internet reception and found a vegan option listing for The Rooftop at Pelham House Resort, Dennis Port. ‘Yay!’, then ‘No Way!’ When we arrived we were sorry to hear they were closed for break at the Rooftop and the Resort dining side next door was closed for a wedding party. We felt so defeated, not just because we were starving but the views looks amazing too! They suggested we try Chapin’s Seafood down the road. So there is where we landed for cold beers and a Beyond Burger on the menu for me. No view but we were happy to sit at the rustic bar with locals and vacationer all enjoying the chill summer Cape Cod vibe. Pelham, we’ll be back for a cocktail and a meal on the rooftop!
Harwich Port, MA
Bellies full, we were ready to put our toes in the sand. Bank St. Beach in Harwich Port is only a minute down the road. Love this beach with its easy access, small parking lot, lifeguards, bathrooms, and a short walk to settle into relaxation on the welcoming white sand. Too bad we didn’t know Uncle JuJu’s food truck would be there. When I see falafels on the menu, I’m in heaven. Check out their menu and follow them here. After taking a very short nap on the beach and putting our feet in the cool, rejuvinating water, it was time to head home.
Sandwich, MA
But before crossing over the Sagamore Bridge back to the main land, we made one final stop at the Pilot House Restaurant in Sandwich. Such a pretty spot right across from the Cape Cod Canal and Sandwich Marina. There’s a 6.7 mile paved bike/walking trail along the scenic canal making it a great place to spend the day! It was packed at 6:30pm with happy people sprawled out all over the spacious lawn and outside bar-dining patio. We got some cold drinks and listened to the live outdoor entertainment. I scanned the menu and was delighted to see more than one vegan option on the menu! I’ll be back for a meal while soaking up the sunshine and ocean breezes again before the summer ends.
